Hello, all.

I recently picked up an Action Replay PC (ISA card), and scanned everything in the kit.
I figure some people here will be interested, so please download & enjoy!

Manual & disk...

I'll leave these on my webspace for a while (a few months), so people have ample time to snag 'em.
Eventually the download links will disappear, however. But please, share these anywhere you like.

Thanks for the uploads, especially the English version of the manual (i own the German translation).

Do you happen to have a copy of the disk somewhere?

These binaries are useless without the card and were once freely distributed by Datel BBS, so i guess there is no copyright issue.

Thank you very much.

I have hosted the files at [here], in the Datel section.

Within the PDF of the instruction manual, I performed OCR (which also de-skewed pages), and I added bookmarks.

Thanks for the uploads

Sure, you're welcome.

Oh, yes, of course. Here it is...

A much newer version of the software is still available on the web archive of Datel's old site.
However my card came with a self-reported v1.3, which I haven't seen archived anywhere.

Cool! Thanks.

Can I ask where you got it? I have been looking for a replacement paddle wheel (Cable and button) for years now. Thanks.

Yeah, as soon as I saw that, I said "Oh, he's got Brandon's Action Replay". :)

Seeing it in action, it's function is nearly identical to a Periscope board: Has some RAM to hold the debugging software, and hooks NMI so that a button press can activate the software no matter the running state of the computer. The only major difference between them is the software.

Yeah, I remember ads from old issues of "Dr. Dobbs' Journal" and similar magazines advertising similar NMI cards for use with debuggers like SoftICE. It looks like it'd be a really handy tool for software debugging, probably a much better use for it than game cracking.

Hello everyone! I'm now borrowing DeathAdderSF's Action Replay PC as part of my reverse engineering project. I've documented the pinout of the control paddle, and I'm working on dumping the firmware and replicating the PCB schematic (and eventually, the configuration of the PALs)

I'm keeping a page updated with my findings on my wiki.

Very cool. I'm pretty sure it hooks NMI, but would love to be proven wrong.

If a clone/copy ever comes up, it should be very easy to just switch out the software for something like INSIGHT or similar, assuming it fits in the RAM on the card, so that the card can be used as a hardware debugger like the Periscope boards.

On eBay.

BTW: Sorry for my late reply, I hadn't revisited this thread until today. :p

I sold mine on ebay years ago... The handwriting in the scanned PDF manual is mine. Small world... Very cool what you guys have done to archive everything about it. When I stumbled across the LGR video on it, I wondered if there was any chance that it was my old one. I used action replay carts on both my c64 and amiga 500 in the late 80s and early 90's, so when I saw Datel had made one for DOS after I switched over to PC, I had to track it down. If I remember correctly, I mail ordered it from their Florida office.
