So my kids accidentally threw away my Fluke 80 series V meter a couple of years ago. I paid TOP Dollar for that thing brand new and it was my primary meter. I have a secondary unit I have been using since but out of spite I want to replace; rather get another of the same fluke units. I dont want to say how much I paid for it new, but it was new at the time and was alot. I saved up to have a good meter. I dont have that much to burn these days and I see them on Amazon for $415.00

https://www.amazon.com/Fluke-FLUKE-...la-348522007659&ref=&adgrpid=60862048759&th=1

Does anyone know someone selling this meter for a better price or maybe refurbished? I still have my carry bad, manuals and leads. Every time I see them it upsets me so I want to get another meter.

If you're looking for a new one, you're not going to able to go much below 400 clams. Amazon shows a new 87-V going for $396. Even used ("seller refurbs") are pretty pricey for what they are.

Yeah thats what i was afraid of Chuck. It just pains me so much that i have yo shell out alot more money when i jad the meter. Hell it was barel
Y broken in. Guess im spending $400 for a new one.

I have a backup extech meter which i love. Only downfall is the backlight only stays on a few seconds before turning off. Its meant to do thst not broken.. Its just stupidly annoying.

Well, either that or look at some of the EEVBlog reviews on DMMs. For not a lot of money, you can get a pretty good one that you won't cry about losing. I still use a no-name one with big display and backlights that I bought from Circuit Specialists about 10 years ago. Surely there must be better stuff out there.

My workroom/office is packed with stuff. I put a tray of items on the top of my wastebin to clear space on my workbench for a new. Project. They came in to empty trash and threw away evwrything inclyding what was on the tray. I dont kbow why. I had more common sense st thier age but kids today. Dont get me started.. Thats what happened and it still really upsets me.

Nobody, and I mean nobody cleans my own work area. That includes dusting, washing and vacuuming. Stuff magically gets lost otherwise.

The rest of the house is up for grabs.

This is going to sound like sacrilige, how appropriate for Easter, but you're only, I presume, troubleshooting vintage puters for the most part. You would know better obviously. A cheap meter will do fine. No worries with a cheap meter, phone, day to day puter. I myself can't stomach or justify expensive anything anymore. I break things, lose things, watch them sizzle and burn due to no fault of my own. I buy cheap these days. I just bought a cheapo Meterk clamp meter. 20$ or so, shipped. I was surprised to find out it can't read dc currents (with probes yes). You don't get a lot for 20$ these days (it's a joke).

Only I clean my office. They were emptying the waste bin. But yeah Chuck, point taken.

Cheap isa very grey term. Im not going to use a $5.00 meter. I use my extech which was about $130 - $150 new and I love it (except its stupid short backlight). Im sure I have said it before But I am very much OCD. I cant let things go and I tend to dwell on things... For decades even. The fact that I paid alot of money for the meter and its lost is something that haunts me. I know how my brain works. If I replace it, It wont bother me so much. If I dont replace it, I will keep dwelling on it. Of course I have other meters, I have a probe style on in my garage, and a 1980's fluke I never use in a drawer as a "backup to my backup".

And I dont just use it for retro stuff. I use it for WHATEVER may need its use.

That was unlucky to lose that 80 series meter.

Maybe go to a Fluke 75 or 77 model, they are better priced and will still do most things you will need. With the risk it might mentally torture you every time you look at it with the 80 meter accessories.

I don't have kids that did that but my mom ruined a favorite t-shirt when I was in high school and my brother quickly started doing all our laundry. :D

Luckily, this is still an item that's around--you simply need to find out where original owners get rid of theirs (like how a lot of us get rid of our stuff here), and you should be able to find a nice deal.

Yes, today's kids can be dumber than an 8088 running at 400khz...:D And they are the future! OMG!

I used Flukes many many years ago. They were the industry standard handhelds. In the early 90s while working in an unrelated job I started shopping around for one. Car repairs and other expenses prevented it. Anyway in more recent years I went shopping for a Fluke again. Only to find out they weren't made in the US, like most everything else, in China. They moved a long way from their roots. I don't get excited over Chinese made anything these days. You can do what you want. You're the master of your own destiny.

I actually have even a worse reaction--I see what was once easily made here and could be again being copied and mutated (and malwared) and sold back to the oblivious masses which then only demand more of this garbage--and I'm completely disgusted and appalled. :( It's when I see something quality that has 'made in the usa' on it that I have some glimpse of hope.

Plenty of 8062a's on ebay which is what I use. 4.5 digit and true RMS but they don't have a backlight.

Though mine has just started to have an annoying offset and takes a few minutes to settle to zero.
