Hey.

I want to try some multimedia cd games, on my 486dx266 machine, which has 24m of RAM.

I already have the way things work, I tried to get "Night Trap" but I can't find a download of the DOS version.

Recommendations of other multimedia cd games which will run well on my machine, would be much appreciated.

If I can find a download of them, I will burn and try them out.

EDIT both MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 based games are okay.

P.S: I already have, Day of The Tentacle, The Way Things Work, and Myst.

Most 'multimedia' games required at least Windows 3.1 for some reason... but there are some that emulate windows style menus in DOS.

There was a windows 3.1 multimedia game in which you travel back to mid evil times, sort of an action puzzle game

Ran best under dos but had a windows mode as well

Completely forgot the title

Congrats, those specs let you run essentially all DOS multimedia titles, and all Windows 3.1 multimedia titles. Some suggestions:

- 7th Guest
- Jones in the Fast Lane (must be the multimedia edition, has full redbook audio for the speech, this assumes your CDROM has redbook audio playable via your sound card or external speakers)
- Myst
- Wing Commander 3 and 4

Cheesy, but still fun:

- Novastorm
- Who Shot Johnny Rock
- Wetlands

For a full list, go through http://www.mobygames.com/genre/sheet/fmv/ and http://www.mobygames.com/genre/sheet/video-backdrop/ and pick out anything that says it runs in DOS.

Are you thinking of The Horde? http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/horde

By "multimedia" I take it you mean games with videos?

MegaRace
Rebel Assault
Dragon Lore

Does WaterWorld count? I remember it having Myst-like grainy live-action videos between levels.

My copy says it requires DOS 6.0 (Windows 95-friendly) a Pentium 90 CPU, and at least a double-speed CD drive.

I'm amazed nobody has mentioned The Journeyman Project yet. It's another multimedia point and click adventure game of the era. Very fun.
There is also Gord@k. The box system requirements suggest a Pentium but I have run it on a 66mhz 486. The major demands for performance are from its heavy use of Quicktime and QTVR assets.

I once owned a copy of Star Wars: Rebel Assault, but I could never get to grips with the "flying on rails" approach. (It didn't help that I'd already played several of the free-flying X-Wing series.) In retrospect, I think it was similar to Tomcat Alley on the Sega CD/Mega CD. I didn't get far with that either.

Oh my little brother used to love The Journeyman Project. I had to help him constantly as he was too little to play such a game, but he loved it nonetheless. Man, those were the days.

I'll have to check that out. I wonder how it stacks up against the PlayStation and Saturn versions. Direct port?

Check out Cyberia & Cyberia II. They got almost universally panned by the press but I love 'em. Fun hybrid adventure-rail shooter games with a ton of '90s cyberpunk camp.

I think a lot of CD-ROM graphic adventures would also pique your interest. Chronomaster, Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, and The Space Bar (<-- picked that up in a thrift shop a while ago, have yet to play it though!) also come to mind.

Kings Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow (DOS and Windows 3.1) on CD is considered a Multimedia game (has video with speech for the sound card, music of your choice, and SFX).
