Screen Designations - While not displayed on the case, the screen designations are next to the model number below. There were at least seven different removable screens on the PC-4xx Versa.

(no Designator) - Monochrome DTSN 9.4", 64-shades of gray at 640x480 Pixels naitive. Easily noticeable due to the thinner casing, dual brightness and contrast sliders on the right side of the screen, and also how rarely these seem to crack at the hinge joint on the right of the screen casing. Rare.

C = Color TFT Active Matrix 9.4" NEC NL6448AC30 Panel. Up to 24-bit color at 640x480 Pixels. This was the most popular screen option on these laptops. Has a single brightness slider to the right of the panel. Very common.

P = Monochrome DTSN 9.4", 64-Shades of gray @ 640x480 Pixels, most likely Kyocera panel. 3M MicroTouch panel (223mmx172mm, or 10.4" total) 9.4" viewable area, with pen support (1/8" phono jack). Very rare.

CP = Color TFT Active Matrix 9.4" NEC NL6448AC30 Panel w/ 3M MicroTouch panel (223mmx172mm or 10.4" total, 9.4" viewable area) w/ pen support (1/8" phono jack) - Rare.

HC = High Resolution Color TFT Active Matrix 9.4" NEC NL8060???? 800x600 @ 256 Color LCD Panel. Uncommon, usually seen on the Versa M/75, M/100, and P/75 Models.

HC(2) = High Resolution Color TFT Active Matrix 10.4" NEC NL8060???? 800x600@ 256 Color LCD Panel. Rare. Usually on late production PC-4xx models (M/100, P/75).

Examples of Application
Ultralite 33C - 33MHz 486 Ultralite with Color Display
40ECP - 40MHz 486 DX2 40E model with Color Screen and Touch/Pen Support
P/75HC - 75 MHz Pentium model with Color 800x600 Screen, can be 9.4" or 10.4" depending on when it was made

** Special Note - Versa V
Versa V goes under the PC-7xx Series (PC-710, 720? +) and has a non-removable screen. It's practically identical to the other models save for a different palm wrest, screen assembly, and latch mechanism - as well as the way the screen attaches to the motherboard (obviously). There were three models of this, and three different screens used. It pretty much mirrors the E-series above, just minus the removable screen (Versa Value perhaps?).

V/40 - 40MHz 486 DX2, 4MB RAM base, 20MB Maximum, 1MB WD SVGA, Dumb Battery
V/50 - 50MHz 486 DX2, 4MB RAM base, 20MB Maximum, 1MB WD SVGA, Dumb Battery
V/75 - 75 MHz 486 DX4, 8MB RAM base, 40MB Maximum, 1MB WD SVGA, unknown Battery type

Preloaded O/S

Ultralite - MS-DOS 5.00/Windows 3.1
V & E - MS-DOS 6.xx/Windows 3.1, or WIndows for Pen Computing on touch/pen models
M- MS-DOS 6.22/Windows 3.1
P/75 - MS-DOS 6.22/Windows 3.1, probably Windows 95 toward the end of the production run.

I have also read that IBM OS/2 was available on these as well.
