Hi,
my husband was an electronics hoarder and it has been left up to me to move his stash to a better place. My concern is that I won't know a lot about the equipment, be able to answer questions or determine it's condition. I am starting to work very slowly in the basement. I had no idea people were interested in older electronic stuff. Right now I am looking at a VT 131. I remember we got it in the early 80's. I would like to put together items, take some photo's and post. Some items I will have no idea what they are. If I were to post these things, would any forum members be willing to put a name or value to the item? I am in Northern Colorado and I am willing to ship. I don't need to make much money.. any offers on stuff would be appreciated. Please let me know if this would work on this forum.
Please feel free to contact me by email also.
thanks,
Jean

Are we talking computers or all kinds of electronics? Was he a collector who fixed up and used items or a hoarder that pickup up broken items and stashed them all over the house in piles? There are plenty of people here that can figure out what things are from a good digital photograph (mostly stuff they collect or are looking for), you never know if something in the stash is worth money or if it is all junk.

Hi,
no, this is all stuff he used through the years. When something new came out, it went on the shelf. This is not a hoarder in the mental illness sense of the word. He just never got around to disposing of his stuff. I have many different sized magnetic tape cassettes. There may be sensitive info on them or maybe not. Most likely I don't have the equipment to erase them. This my dilemma. I have little parts, chips and stuff. I realize that you probably aren't used to dealing with someone who isn't a techie. I have cables that are in boxes. Some I should keep, but which ones? You see this is going to be difficult for me. I hope that the folks on this forum will help me wade through it all. My only other option is to send it all to a landfill and I would prefer not to. I will be busy for the next few days. I hope to start posting by Monday.
thanks for responding,
Jean

Hi Jean
The best option would be to find someone that colects in the area you are in
and have them look at what is there. If the equipment is running, you could
sit with them and determine sensitive data from original programs and such.
First though is a servey of what you have. Good luck
Dwight
