About how much would a PDP-10 cost these days?
- VCF South West - June 14 - 16, Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center at University of Texas at Dallas

Hard to say. If (I say if) you could find the hardware you might be
able to afford it. But could you afford the cost to actually run it?
And weren't 10s all 3-phase? I think about having a pdp-10 at times,
but am fairly sure I could not afford to run it, at least very often.
I would have loved to have gotten the KA-10 from Penn State, but
I was told they dismanted it rather than let someone get it.
Such a shame.

Yeah, 3 Phase wouldn't be worth it for a single person. Thats a lot of power to be paying for. Plus they would have to install it in your house. Not a fun thing to accidentally touch.......

I saw a guy get hit with 440-3phase before. Threw him back about six feet & knocked him on his ass, but otherwise, no harm, no foul. (Guy's nickname was "Kong" so you can imagine the size of man we're talking about).

Or maybe Jizcp means how much would the original price of a PDP-10 be in today's monetary system? Some kind of price index.

True, I had not thought he might mean compare original prices to today's
dollar. Well I think the prices back then were from like $60k to $300,000
or $400,000. For the very basic model to the top end. I don't know what
type of conversion would be applied. The components used back then
don't compare to nowadays. Too many variables I think to come up
with a value. But it would be interesting.
I'd like to make a replica pdp-10 front panel and run Simh and have
all those lights blink.

Yeah, the price for one bottle of milk and the price for a tape recorder probably have evolved in different index directions since the 1970s.
