Atari 1010 Cassette Issues

Hello everyone

Can someone help me in regards to the Atari 1010 cassette.
I have a Synapse Dimension X game on cassette that loads properly onto my Atari 400 and the game even goes to the title screen. But when you press any buttons the Atari crashes and goes to the Note Pad screen.
Even when you let the game try to go to its own demo screen, the game crashes and the Atari Blue Note Pad screen comes up.
Has anyone had this problem before and is it my Atari or is the cassette defective.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

John

How large is the game, i.e. is it intended to be playable on an Atari 400? How much memory does yours have? I seem to remember Atari added more memory as they went along with production, but of course without aftermarket expansion it won't have as much as e.g. an Atari 800. Depending on how the load process works, the computer might not notice it is putting program data into unconnected address space and then crash when it tries to execute what is not there, although ideally it would bail out with OUT OF MEMORY error prior to that.

Hello Anders

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
My Atari is 32K and the game is also for 32K systems.
All of my other synapse, 32K games load and run just fine.
For some reason, Dimension X loads then goes to the display screen and then when you touch any button the game stops and displays the memo pad.
Even if I let the game display page sit for a minute or so you can tell it wants to start a demo but this also crashes the game.
I would assume that the cassette has not be loaded properly with all of the correct game data.

Regards,
John
