I have a Gateway 2000 G6-266 that I bought new around 97 era that I'm putting back together. The power supply is missing out of it but need a new one with a built in fan on the bottom as it cools the CPU. I also paid extra for the Gateway full tower option back in the day and I believe there are two different part#'s for power supplies depending on if you got the mid tower (rounded front) or full tower. I can't seem to find any info on the correct part# for this unit. Any help would be great! I'm finding the full tower is pretty rare.

thanks

I've got five Gateways and two are towers. I also have a few keyboards, one monitor and a few mice and manuals and original software. I'm going to be selling several at some point.

About three years ago I put out a request on freecycle for old unwanted computers to learn on repairing and happened to get a reply from a lawyers wife. He had the money to buy two excellent systems with all the bells and whistles. Two kinds of drives and a zip. Iirc, one has a duel floppy 3.5 and 5.25 combo, a CD player and 250 mb zip and all are like new.

The original power supply was probably the WK-6200DL3.

But why not use a standard PSU and just stick a fan directly onto the CPU heatsink?

I'm pretty sure the original power supply was a 250w model. If I buy any ordinary power supply in there than stick a fan under neath I won't get any airflow. If you look at the original power supply design there is a cut out at the bottom that allows fresh air to be drawn in. These computers are not worth much any ways so why not try and find the origial replacement, there pretty cheap.

Is it just me or does Gateway not have any info on the older Gateway 2000 PC's on there website such as drivers and part numbers. I can't seem to find any info on my computer.

I did take a guess on ebay and bought 6500158 and it was way to small.

Can you tell me the part#'s to the power supplies you have on your Gateway's? What models are they.

Thanks

If you can hold off until Monday, I will check my tower (G6-300) and give you that power supply number. Though I think it was a normal ATX power supply coupled with a seperate shroud and fan. The G6-233 tower with the Intel 440fx motherboard should be using an equivalent model; other motherboards might have been paired with different power supplies.

Sorry, the tower is difficult to get to but I should do an annual look inside anyway.

Gateway wasn't the only one who had the fans on the bottom of the PSU like that. I have seen generic and name brand (IBM even did in some models) systems alike do that, so you could expand your search to other PSU vendors.

Antec makes a few models of ATX power supplies with bottom mounted fans, I'm sure there are others as well. I never particularly cared for how Gateway setup the cooling in these machines. They likely used the setup to cut costs, a CPU fan is recommended.

I've got a power supply from a Toshiba Infinia 7201 that used the same motherboard and cooling arrangement. If you can't find a replacement, email me and we'll work something out.

But there are a lot of other power supplies that have the same setup. Go to eBay and search for "Dymex Power Supply". These things have a generously large fan.

Those Intel motherboards showed up on a lot of machines. I wonder if Intel offered them super cheap to OEMs.

They are still at it these days (even now that Acer owns them)...I have a Core2Quad Gateway LX6810 rig, its stock cooling was a PSU fan and CPU fan, THATS IT!! No more overheating once I added 1x 80mm and 1x 120mm fans.

I checked both my G6-300s and the power supplies are 200W ATX with that plastic shroud seemingly glued on. At least, I can't find any screws holding the shroud in place.

Minitower: Powertronic WK6200DL3
Full Tower: Astec ATX202-3515

I hope this information proves useful even if I got it late.

Was the power supplies in these an ATX? I've got an ATX power supply with a bottom mounted fan out of an old Gateway 2000 P5-100 that had a hard drive fail then shortly after the motherboard so I chucked the case and motherboard and kept the rest.
