Hi,
I recently received a IBM PC jr, and when I turn it on, it says "ERROR A". I was wondering what this means and how I can fix it.
Thank you for your consideration,
Sam
Error A indicates a memory problem. Remove any memory expansions you may have and then try starting the machine again. Be careful when removing sidecars; you do not want to bend the pins on the sidecar connectors. You should also remove the internal 64KB memory card.
If the machine is happier with less memory then you can try to add the memory sidecars back to the system and see which one causes the failure.
If you do not have a Guide To Operations now would be a good time to find one.
If you remove the internal memory card and the drive controller the machine should display a splash screen, count up to 64KB, and then go to Cassette BASIC. What exactly is your machine doing, and how far is it getting?
