Pet Tape Drives, etc.

I just got a Pet 2001-8 with both an internal and external tape drive. I've managed to get the external to behave (mostly) but the internal drive is shot. The motor appears dead and the drive belt was brittle and broken.

Is there a good source for replacement parts or is there another, more readily available drive that I can scavange parts from? I'd love to get the internal tape working again without parting out another Pet.

Thanks!

Any bog-standard Commodore 1530 datassette should provide the necessary parts for you, if I'm not much mistaken... :)

I just bought a Vic-20 (of all things) on eBay because it came with the datasette. It was cheaper then a boxed datasette sold for a bit earlier, so I suppose I got a deal.

Of course shipping is always the thing and it'll cost me almost twice as much to get the damn thing to me as it did to buy it.

Such is life on eBay.

Ho-ho-ho.. Indeed! The reason still why only one of the 100+ machines in my collection is an eBay-purchase (an Acorn Electron - they never sold big in Denmark).

Still, the VIC is a wonderful little machine...And if you have an X1541 cable, and a 1541 drive, you can use that to download programs on the internet. I'm talking about also new (programmed in 2002) legal programs. www.cncd.fi/aeeben (homepage of Finnish nut Aleksi Eeben) provides both C64, VIC and Gameboy (yup!) programs and music!
