Hello list!

I'm placing this cry for help here without being sure that this is really appropriate. If it this is not the appropriate place, please accept my apologies and feel free to remove this submission. Thank you!

For my thesis I'm doing a small survey about retro computing. I would like to know what the retro computer lovers do currently and what is their motivation for using old hardware and software. The survey can be completed in under 5 minutes and I'll be very grateful for every submission I receive. Any random comments, notes and stories are also very welcome.

The survey can be found on http://www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~hristov/en.html

Thank you very much!

Well, crap. I took the time to fill out the form and put some thought into things, but the form wouldn't send using my Firefox browser. I'm not going to type it all over again...suffice it to say that to my mind, the ideas and desires behind collecting computers is no different than any other type of collecting except perhaps that our computers tend to actually get used more often and for more productive things than say, a Disney Snow Globe collection that sits on a shelf to collect dust.

Of course, as Chuck said, they're still tools - and can be treated (and used) as such, no different than using old hand tools when there are much more efficient and modern tools at our disposal. Sometimes less is more.

Same thing, submitted via email but Thunderbird just bought up a blank new message.
You really need a backend script collecting the data rather than relying on the users email client, there are heaps of survey tools online that will do all this for you.

I think this is most appropriate. :)

I had the same problem. filled out the survey and clicking the button at the end didn't seem to send the info.

Perhaps there was a mistaken expectation that everybody would be using off-the-shelf and pre-configured computers. The "mailto" protocol has to be configured in order to work. I don't use it, and it looks like others don't either. hehe

However, I did cut and paste the form into an e-mail and sent it in the normal fashion.
