The TRS-80 5.25" floppy drive hack is limited to a select few drives that MUST be able to have the READY signal fixed on. For the reasons that they are huge and annoying to store, I did not keep may 5.25" floppy drives around but I have two in particular that I believe might be the best choice.
One of them is a Toshiba 6471L0K. The other is an MPI B52. I need to find a source for the tech papers on these drives so I can better know what jumpers need to be shorted because on both drives, either the silkscreening was badly done or the naming is too vague (Is it RD....or RY?). Anyone know of such a place?

I've got the manual for the MPI 52 (as well as a couple of drives). That drive doesn't output a ready signal unless there's an option board installed at J5 on the PCB. But not every board is a READY board--the most common one at J5 was an FM data separator, which oddly, also output on pin 34. So it's possible, but it's not a standard option.

Can't help you with the Toshiba.

Hi
I have a Canon Cat that uses a disk that needs a ready signal.
I made a retriggered oneshot that used the index signal to
create the ready signal. It didn't work well for the Cat because
it timed out to fast.
Oh well.
I later made a change to the firmware in the Cat to use
the Index as a drive ready.
