hey guys,

I have the 2011 model, and still works. I would like to do something with it. What do you suggest?

Where can i find software for it?

How can i check the SO version, is there any update ?

I don't know anything about that model, Could you light me up?

Im a complete novice for this retro computing thing... Where do i start?

Also, if i want to sell this machine, how much would it be valued?

Thanks!

Given this from the link I sent you:

IBM PS/1 (model 2011) Type Personal computer
Release date 1990
Operating system PC-DOS 4.01 (in ROM)
CPU Intel 80286 @ 10 MHz
Memory 512 KB ~ 1 MB

The computer will boot up fast. I would avoid trying to install Windows 3.11 as it would have been too slow due to the max RAM of 1 MB and 10mhz processor speed. You can't really upgrade the base ROM OS of DOS 4, nor would you really need to. Best thing would be stick with DOS games from 1983-1992, Word Perfect 5, Lotus 1-2-3. It would be a great system to run the many games from the 80's meant to be PC/XT compatible.

Nice for students, writing term papers and that sort of thing. Not quite powerful enough for early WWW era, making it obsolete by 1995.

There are PS/1 collectors out there. Try starting your Ebay auction at $99.

I was watching this video, forgot to include link:

If you need a GUI - I am not familiar with PC/XT Geoworks. That said, Windows 1 would also work, Windows 286, and 3.0 (w/ some limitations). Note that DOS 4 has a mouse-driven shell as well. The game Thexter would be good on this machine.

I guess the first thing is to determine what software is actually on the beasts hard drive or if the hdd is, indeed, functioning.

I've found this an interesting exercise on all the older machines I've had. Have come across dos satellite tracking and medical monitoring stuff in the past. Looks like you can get up to 2.5megs of ram on the things judging by Nestors and others comments:

Looks like someones tried Windows 1.x (no PS/2 mouse support as standard)on one of these with no luck getting a functioning mouse due to lack of serial port on these systems:

Play vintage videogames or install other software.

There are a lot of abandonware sites around, just google a bit.

The 2011 model comes with PC-DOS 4.00 or 4.01. The DOS in ROM is not upgradeable, but you can install any DOS version in the hard disk and boot from there.

It is a 80286-10 MHz PC with a compact design, power supply is located inside the monitor and it has no ISA slots. The hard drive uses a proprietary IBM interface, usually 30 MB of capacity. It has 512 kB on-board ram and a slot that accepts 512kB or 2 MB proprietary RAM cards. It also includes a slow VGA graphics card.

Search these forums, wikipedia, mobygames...

There are some vendors in eBay asking 100-300 € for this model, in a bid auction it usually finishes between 30 and 50 €
