I've kinda been wanting to scratch this itch since having an argument with an modernist Intel zealot on another forum a while back, but also since I grew up on 68k Macs: I'd like to own the fastest 68k model, the Quadra 840AV.

I'm not looking for an especially mint-condition machine with a huge loadout of rare goodies, but I would like something in good working condition. My only real requirement beyond that is that I'd like a basic working OS install, as I'm not sure if my Mac OS 8.1 CD is salvageable from all the scratching... I don't need a keyboard, mouse, or monitor, I have suitable ones on hand.

I'm not looking to pay a huge amount for this, $50-100 + S/H or so. Anybody got one that could use a new home?

Why not overclock a Q800 and then you'll have the fastest 68K Mac that can also run A/UX, he asked him evilly, sitting next to a Q800 that's been clockchipped to 40MHz and runs A/UX 3.1.1 like a boss?

Hmm. No real interest in A/UX, myself, but that'd be a viable alternative, since the 800 also has the interleaved RAM. I'd still like the improved audio of the AV, though (and I'd like to give DSP programming a try.)

I've got a q840 motherboard available that seems to work, but doesn't show the insert disk icon. Not sure if the board has an issue or if I don't have enough of a machine (no floppy, hard drive, keyboard, etc)...

I'm not so much thinking for improvement on existing usage as just playin' around - maybe do a simple synthesizer model or something. But that's secondary, mostly I just kinda want to run native-68k as fast as possible.

No chance of a 68k Classilla port, I suppose...

If you are looking for something with improved audio, I have the following:

Power Macintosh 8100/80 (badged 8100/100) with newer technology MAXpowr 240Mhz G3 Processor Upgrade,184Mb RAM, 1Gb HDD, CD-rom, Floppy, Digidesign Audiomedia II, Sound Designer II, DINR Noise Reduction running OS8.1. Included is an Apple Keyboard II and Desktop Bus Mouse II. It also came in with an Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display which is available for LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. A copy of the User's Guide is included, as is the digidesign SOUND DESIGNER II AUDIO EDITING SOFTWARE USER'S GUIDE and Apple Multiple Scan 15 Display User's Guide (for LOCAL PICKUP ONLY). I am located in Rhode Island. LOCAL PICKUP PRICE (ENTIRE PACKAGE) $ 125.00. SHIPPED CONUS US PRICE (PACKAGE MINUS MONITOR) $ 115.00. PayPal ONLY. PM me if interested.

Thanks, but I'm not really looking for a Power Mac; I already have a G4 MDD, the fastest system capable of running classic Mac OS. The point here is more that I'd like to run the fastest 68k system I can.
