I read the wikipedia page which covers mostly cf storage but only briefly mentions cf devices. I've never really played with anything that used CF before but have recently found a lot of palmtop like devices seem to support either a CF drive or possibly PCMCIA (v1/2?) device. I was at the local goodwill spending money I shouldn't have because I wanted to see what all the hype about a keyboard they had was and was looking around for a power adapter for a newer PalmPilot. Didn't find one but I found several CF 802.11b devices and a bluetooth device also. They're interesting and I'm guessing perhaps for newer pocketpc type devices perhaps but they're all smaller than I thought CF was. I could be wrong though since again I never really have had a CF drive.. but these are 1.5" wide and 2" long (length doesn't really matter I'm guessing) but seem to have a standard two row pin set (don't want to count them.. look like more than 40 though). An example is here on Amazon like this dlink cf adapter. That's in a converter to make it either full CF or PCMCIA compatible? What's the little things interface or version then? Anyone use something like this in a vintage computer?

Count the pins--CF I/O devices have 50 pins; Cardbus/PCMCIA have 68.

I wouldn't count on a CF I/O device having any driver support through an IDE converter, however.

Ah ok. Yes you're right. I opened one up and the mini card in this one is 50 pin (CF bluetooth card) and is in a converter "CompactFlash CF Card Adapter" which ends up at 68 pins. Thanks for solving that mystery. I'm not sure how the hell I counted so many pins the first time or maybe I was hellbent on counting the adapter earlier and not removing the little card.
