So I'm looking to upgrade my two Seagate ST02 controllers to BIOS 3.3 (which I've posted about in the marketplace here: http://www.vintage-computer.com/vcf...-version-3-3-(quantity-2)&p=291958#post291958). But I've read in ftp://ftp.seagate.com/techsuppt/controllers/st01-02.txt, in the section that starts with the phrase "Addendum from the Seagate Tech Support BBS", that boards that came with a 3.3 BIOS also have a newer board layout.

I found a picture of a 3.3 board:

My two boards look like this:

(For reference, one of my boards has BIOS 3.2, and one has BIOS 3.0). I'm assuming that this means that my boards have the older board layout.

st01-02.txt says "Please note that there is no possibility of ROM upgrades to older versions of the ST01/02 SCSI host adapter." That makes it sound like you can't plug a 3.3 BIOS into an older version board. Is this true? That would be strange, because my boards have the same SCSI controller chip as the newer board, the BIOS is the same size (16k), and it has the same number of pins (28). So why wouldn't a 3.3 BIOS work in an older board?
