I believe that originally, what we call vacuum tubes were called "thermionic valves."

Is this a one-off thing, or are PCBs available for building one? If nothing else, I'd be curious to see a schematic of the output section...

Very nice work! I've thought about buying small tubes (commonly called "pencil tubes" here) but couldn't think of an immediate use for them.

That's correct, and the origin of the British term. Vacuum tube is a more general term, though I believe the British call devices like space-charge tubes "valves" as well.

no heating is surprisingly little , heat current is 40-50ma
