I picked up a pair of AST Premium 286 motherboards and FastRAM cards a while back, and finally got around to powering them up. I was told one motherboard was working and the other was faulty but not specifics, but in fact both seem to behave the same.
Both boards are 202143-002 models (http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/motherboards/A/AST-RESEARCH-INC-286-PREMIUM-286.html#.VHnEDmdyY5s) FastRAM boards are 202146 type with 1MB.
Initially powering them up with no RAM card, I get the 1 long, 6 short beeps (The BIOS was unable to load the interrupt vectors into memory) on both boards - makes sense, as there's no built in RAM.
So I try adding the RAM card, and on any combination of motherboard/card I get 1 long 1 short 1 long 1 short beep. I can't find what this code means...1 long 1 short could be DMA controller but why would it return the same error twice?
I also noticed that the BIOS type jumpers (E4-E6 and E10-E13) had no jumpers so tried various combinations there but none seemed to make any difference.
Can anyone shed any light on the error I'm getting?
Thanks
David
