Hi, i cant run windows 1.01 on my IBM XT, i tried with EGA and CGA graphics, 256kb or 640kb RAM, nothing. When i run win.exe, i see only main screen

and nothing else happens.

On my 286 computer this windows works fine.

Sounds more like it's crashing. You sure your disk (images?) are good? What else is running at boot? Any drivers? It might of simply crashed because something was in a memory location it normally uses.

Computer works normaly, there is IBM DOS 2.0, some norton utilities, games... From that one floppy its running on 286 PC

Did you run Setup after changing video card?

windows 1.01 have any setup??

BTW what is lowest system configuration for windows 1.01 ? IBM PC/XT ??? RAM ??? graphics? need i mouse?

Please post your complete system specs. Windows 1.0x should run on anything starting from the original IBM PC, as long as it has a graphics card, at least 256 kb of memory and DOS 2.0.

btw, how long did you wait after the splash screen appeared? Maybe it's just slow and takes some time..?

IBM PC XT, 256kb RAM, IBM CGA, HDD ST-412, 5153 monitor

I waited cca 15 seconds? I dont know precisely...

The setup utility is on the Setup disk and I think needs to be run from the floppy.

15 seconds should be enough time.

this is my image file, i dont see any setup file

Unfortunately, I can't read the image provided. It looks like you have a self-booting disk with an installed copy of Windows 1.01 which will only work on a system identical to what created the disk. I think you will need to locate a copy of the install disk set in order to modify the disk you have to work on your XT.

It is most likely crashing because it is caught in a loop looking for the mouse.

I had this problem on my PCJr until I picked the correct mouse on COM2 where my mouse is located in the setup program.

That boot disk is pre-configured for EGA and a PS/2 mouse. It is intended for use on emulators, and pentium era PCs with 1.44mb floppy drives. It does not have drivers for anything else.

To install Windows on the system described, one must use the Windows installation disks, run setup, and choose CGA video, a serial mouse (if you have one), and your printer type.

thanks for advices, it works fine now. One more think, how i activate this (picture) button without mouse? I cand close any program, ALT-F4 doesnt work.

Press the <ALT> key to get into the menus. Arrows should move you around and look at all the menus to see the various hotkey combos. I believe the direct short-cut to the system menu box is <ALT>+<Space>.

Windows 2 is the version that implemented IBM's CUA and has the now standard keyboard commands. Windows 3 dropped some of the less frequently used function key combos freeing them for use by applications.
