I bought one of these, but forgot to get the actual compact flash card adapter. Can I use a any CF adapter with this? And how would you format the CF card to ProDos format?

I have one of the first batch. The CF adapter looks like any other - I have several no-name ones I've gotten off of ebay. Buy a few different ones just to be safe, and to have a spare or two... they are super cheap.

For formatting - just use any ProDOS utility.

Thanks! I really appreciate that. I was afraid I would have to wait another couple months to get the adapter. Does it require any special CF brand name card? I know my CF reader for the Amiga was picky.

That, I'm not sure - I've had CFFA cards for years and have learned to stick with fairly well-known brands like SanDisk. I think I have a Viking brand in my Technobyte card now. But I don't have any no-name CF cards in my hoard.

I agree stick with Sandisk, it's all I buy anymore, I have bought Viking and Lexar in the past with success, but many noname cards just don't seem to work all that well (or at all), or have failed in short order, just spend a bit more to begin with and save time and hassle and go Sandisk.

I use a 128mb industrial IDE Flash Modul (power over the IDE connector). The speed test has shown that the card is about 15-30% faster than the CFFA. I get up to 150kb/s (block-reading speed) with a ZIP8000 at 8mhz.

The problem is not in the CF cards if they work on other computers/readers, most likely it is in the CFFA itself.

Does the type of SanDisk CF card matter? I see 2GB's that say Ultra, Extreme, some others that have nothing from China.
