Recently picked up a nice Apple IIe. I enjoyed the IIe platinum I recently got that I couldn't help the urge to get an original model.
It was very dusty when I got it however, it did apparently work a few months ago.
I took it home and plugged it in (as I wanted to make sure it did work before I went about cleaning it). I looked on the IIe monitor and saw absolutely nothing. I checked all the obvious things (contrast, video cable etc.) but there was no beep or disk drive noises or lights. However, the keyboard light and the power on led on the mobo worked.
So I took it all apart, cleaned it, lubricated the drives (as they also didn't work originally) and reassembled carefully and still got nothing. I then decided try swapping parts from the Platinum into original Apple IIe to see if I could find the faulty chip. I swapped the 6502 with 3 others and still got nothing. However, I tried the 6502 that was in the Apple IIe in the Platinum and only got thick bars across the screen. So I can assume the processor is probably faulty.
However, that being said, even if the processor didn't work, it should still show these bars on the Apple IIe shouldn't it?
So, I tried swapping as many parts as I could as some are not directly compatible. I checked reset lines, voltages and speaker ohmage and all were fine.
Would I be right in my assumption that both the 6502 and 344-0022 (IOU) are faulty? I've had a look at the schematic and it appears that the IOU chip controls disk drives, speaker and video.
If that's the case, how would I go about finding the latter chip? Apple IIe's are quite expensive here and I'd hate to have to use one for parts.
Edit: I've also checked the RAM and as far as I can tell it's okay. If it's compatible with the 5160, that may be the best way to prove it though.
