IBM PC 5170 type 3 BIOS, support for 1.44 floppy drive

Hi, as you all know ( :D ) I have this MB, i ran setup program from diagnostic floppy, but there were only 3 choices of floppy drive. 360K, 1,2MB and 720K.
I read on minuszero that type 3 motherboard support 1.44 drive without problems, so where can be fault? Thanks.

I think it does, however the option isn't available in the stock setup program for the AT, there is a program in the while, gsetup i think it is that will give you the option.

Bad news. There is no 'user defined hard drive type' functionality in the IBM BIOS of a 5170. Only the types hard coded into the BIOS are available.

A couple of options:
1. Use a non-IBM BIOS that is compatible with the 5170, one that has 'user defined hard drive type' functionality in it. See [here].
2. Have someone modify the IBM BIOS to suit your drive. They then post replacement BIOS chips to you.
