Ok saw this on CL in the near local area. https://spacecoast.craigslist.org/sop/5631434373.html

It doesn't look right! Seems an enhanced keyboard which would indicate an Apple IIe? But the case top and bottom looks
like a regular Apple II or II+? Also look at the 5th picture 2nd large chip towards front. Why is there a Z80 in that socket? What should be there.
I don't think a Z80! I think an I/O chip? Also maybe a ROM card of sorts in one of the slots? very confused. Could someone clarify this?

Yes, it's not an Apple, but a clone- with built-in Z80 for CP/M. I would pick it up for $25 in a second, if you have the skill to repair...

Probably, though the connector on the mainboard looks different. You'd have to change the plug on one end or the other.

Personally, I find the oddball clones rather interesting. That unit looks a bit dirty, but I suspect it would clean up nicely.

Yes, some of the clones packed a lot more features than the original Apple's. I believe there was one clone that had 6502, Z80 and 6809 CPUs.

For $25 I think this one is well worth grabbing if you are close enough.

Back "in the day" we bought a lot of clone hardware from an outfit called Taiwan Redstone Industries. Way cheaper than anything else at the time. Z-80 Softcard clones for $20, Language cards for about the same, Apple II clones like the one this thread is about for around $150. I seem to remember a few that had the dual CPU's like this one.

Most of these were of course illegal clones due to the copied ROMS, software (Copyright violation, most computer hardware didn't have patents at the time). It was always a roll of the dice when we sent them cashiers checks whether or not we would get anything back or if customs would seize them, they always did come in.

I would pick it up regardless just for the mystery! Zilog did have add on's for the Z80 but that's a Z80A. They had the Z80CTC, the PIO, SIO etc. Grab it and let us know!

Well it's about a Hour to Hour and a 1/2 drive from here to there. I did notice near the odd power connector that there is holes for the more standard 6 pin the Apple's used. I might be able to locate one of those. Or I might be able to fix the power supply if I can figure out where that red wire is going to. Just a plain switcher.

Just sent an email and asked if it was still available. See what happens
