Want to buy an MCA sound card for my 8580 PS/2, mainly Chipchat or Soundpiper

I'm after a sound card for my MCA system, primarily to get sound in a hand-full of memorable old games. As far as I can tell, the Chipchat and Soundpiper cards are likely the best way to go for compatibility.

Some notes:

1: It's got to be in proper working condition.
2: I'd prefer there be no smelly or sticky nastiness, and obviously no physical damage.
3: New, Complete in Box, and loose cards known to work are all fair play.
4: I'm not above buying a computer to get a card, if for some reason that's the way it has to go.

I'm aware of the rarity of MCA sound cards, and I know I'm not going to be able to buy one with pocket change. Pitching me your card won't be a waste of your time. People don't want to let them go, and I understand that, but my eyes are open.

I know it's going to hurt, and I'm out for one anyway. The more complete it is, the more you'll get me to pay. I spend enough time on the other end of this type of transaction to have earned the gut punch.

One final note: If you see anything out there, let me know. I'm cruising and ready to pounce.

Quick tip: check Craigslist / Search Tempest / eBay regularly. CT5320s/CT5330s are found inside multimedia PS/2s once in a while.

Last year I bought a CT5320 & CT5330 in SC thru CL. Sold them again though. :)

Also post to the IBM PS/2 newsgroup.

Yeah, I've been wearing Craigslist and Ebay out for a while now. Haven't found one yet, but I might eventually. I wouldn't mind hearing how much you charged for yours, though, so I can open up with a solid offer if I see one without a price tag.

I have been cruising for multimedia PS/2s as well. I've actually been looking at every PS/2 I find, in case someone just happened to install one at some point.

Can't post on the newsgroup, as I don't have a Google account (if you're talking about the Google group), and I've no intention of getting anywhere near one. :)

Both sold for approximately $300 each. One went to South Korea and one to Chicago, IL.

Roland MPU-IMCs are sometimes available and usually cheaper: you can connect LA and/or GM/GS modules for music / sound effects that way. Unfortunately some games do not work though because the PS/2 has a hard lock on IRQ 2/9: which is used for MPU-401 by some games.

Good information.

I'm not really looking into Roland, as I want the PC to remain self-contained. I'm committed to the PS/2 386 largely for cosmetic reasons; it's not exactly a sensible choice otherwise. :D

I want to put it out there that I won't necessarily turn my nose up at a Sound Blaster, either. I've just read a lot stating they aren't as compatible as the other options.

If anyone has something, just make me an offer. :)
