I bumped into this forum whilst searching for an old WD chip and only hesitated a short wile before jumping down the rabbit hole.

I've been into Electronics and subsequently computers since the mid 70's, when I bought my first Electronics magazine (Practical Wireless, April 1974 issue). I've still got this magazine and quite a few more since then (over 14,000 unique issues and counting).

My first practical foray into computing was on the Commodore Pet an RM380Z that the school owned in 1976, along with timeshare on Liverpool Universities mainframe, learning BASIC along the way. My first personal computer was an Acorn Atom that I built with a friend in 1978 (if I recall correctly). I've built and worked on many many more computers since then, from S-100 systems through to running my distributed computer farm for a while (I actually made it into the top 100 for SETI contributes once, with just my home computers). One of these days I might count how many computers I actually own, but it is probably well over 100 now, given the number of PC parts I have in various parts of the house and other odd computers that I have picked up on impulse.

I am though a bit of a fanatical magazine collector, with complete collections of numerous old computer magazines (Byte, PCW, PC-Plus, PC-Pro and many other partial collections) and complete collections of most of the older UK based electronics magazines.

My main other main interest at the moment is building and restoring Electronic Musical Instruments and I am quite active in this community in the UK. I actually had a couple of tables of gear I built and helped restore at Synthfest in the UK last month.

Looking forward to helping out on here when I can and now that I'm down the rabbit hole, looking to see if I can bring some of my old computers back to life.

All the best

Mike

Hi Mike,
welcome to the forums. There are a few of us in the Northwest UK on here. Sounds like you have more than me. I recently took one of my MicroVAX to the DEC Legacy at Windermere.
