Hello, all,

I have a couple of Apple IIs and would like to hook up a printer. I have no idea where to start. I do have a Grappler printer card in my ][+, and a Super Serial card in my //e. What are the recommendations? I would like something impact/dot matrix.

Thanks!

I have a few dot matrix printers:

Panasonic:

KX-P2624 Wide Format

Citizen:

200GX Color

GSX-145 Color Wide Format

These are parallel interface printers.

At my high school we had 8 Apple IIc's connected through an auto-switching IO box to an ImageWriter II. It works both ways, you can connect multiple computers to a single printer or you can connect 1 computer to several types of printers. You just need to choose what way you want to go and then find a multi IO box to do it; auto works best if its many computers 1 printer and manual for many printers 1 computer.

For parallel printers, pretty much anything that claims Epson FX (9-pin) or Epson LQ (24-pin) emulation will work with most Apple II software.

The "best" configuration for an Apple II would be a Super Serial Card paired with an Apple ImageWriter. Just about every title supports that.

At work, I think we have a couple of very early Centronics ESD printers. The ones with the roll of silver paper that use a spark to make the marks. IIRC, the have a serial interface, but it's a DB15 connector so you'd need to make up a cable.
