I have a Tyan S5502 Motherboard Intel 3420 chipset. 6 DIMM slots but only 2 channels.
CPU is an Intel X3460 XEON Quad core 8 thread socket LGA-1156 CPU.
RAM is HP part with Micron RAM 4GB 2Rx4 PC3-10600R Registered ECC RAM.
Installing 1 DIMM A1 just gives me error beeps. Installing 2 DIMMs A1 + B1 as stated in the manual gives me no beeps but doesn't boot.
Using generic PC3 non registered non ECC RAM boots but has issues. Using 2 DIMMs in A1 + B1 shows only 1GB RAM (using 2 1GB DIMMS). Going A1 + A2 shows 2GB. Either way it crashes hard on Windows 7 install (BSOD) during setup at random points.
I was under the impression you needed REG ECC RAM for XEONs, is that true?
