Tandy 1000 EX Monitor Stand

Good Morning!!

I have been looking high and low for the Tandy monitor stand that was used with the Tandy 1000 EX, so that your monitor can sit on top of your keyboard/pc, but still allow access to the floppy drive from the side.

I have had a search up on ebay for the past two years, and I have never seen one of these things available. The closest thing they have appears to be a swivel stand for tandy monitors (before swivel monitors were a thing on monitors). As a last ditch effort, i'm asking if there is anyone out there that has a spare monitor stand they would be willing to part with, or if someone might know of where I can find or purchase one.

Not by the original design. It uses two thick steel U-shaped legs and a laminated wood top (or similar). One made of plastic would need 4 legs and you might as well make one out of wood at that point. It's the only part of my old 1000EX setup that I still have, sort of--it's been a part of my dad's computing set up for almost 3 decades now.

I wouldn't bet on a 3-D printed stand being able to hold the weight of a monitor, especially a color CRT, for very long. If the OP wants the original stand, he is going to find that likely very difficult. If he wishes to build his own stand to look like the original stand or find a similar looking stand, I would suggest those options. I'd get out the off-white paint

I actually got one on eBay a few months ago. Like you I desperately wanted it to complete a 1000 HX setup I was working on.

The trick is that when I do see them up, they are generally not mentioned in the title because the seller is trying to sell the computer and monitor along with it. If somebody happened to come across the stand by itself, I really doubt they would list it as an EX or HX stand, having no idea of what it actually was.

So long story short, I got an EX along with my stand that was pretty beaten up, but I plan to restore it and put it back up on eBay. You can also try asking if they are willing to sell just the stand separately. Either way, my advice is to look for bundles. I’ve seen the stand included in several EX, HX, and RL bundles in the last few years. Good luck!

100% correct. The metal “U” shaped legs are unique to the Tandy stand. Modern monitor stands either aren’t strong enough to hold a CRT because they are designed for LCDs, or they have 4 legs and block the floppy drive on the side. This isn’t a big deal on an HX or RL with the drives in the front, but on an EX with a 5.25 floppy on the side it’s a real annoyance.

I'm actually making one of these myself. I've looked all over and have scanned ebay for months. No luck. Mine will look exactly like the original Tandy model. Chime in if your interested and I'll make more. Of course I'll post pictures of mine when I'm done to help you decide.
