SFD-1001 errors reading and formatting

I'm trying to diagnose an SFD. Having trouble reading disks, but more importantly when I attempt to format I get various READ errors. It seems to change each time. Thoughts?

Hmmm....is anyone aware of an issue with running IEEE-488 cartridges on a C128 (in c64 mode)? I swapped everything out and attached to my C64 and now I am able to format. Seems strange, if I recall I used to be able to communicate with the SFD via my C128.

Those errors are between the disk and the controller in the SFD-1001, not between the SFD-1001 and the host computer. So swapping computers should not have any bearing on this.

Have you tried this multiple times to verify that it always and only happens on the '128?

Are you using quad density 96TPI disks?

I have some 4D 1S disks and of course your standard DD 2S.

But it didn't seem matter. I appears to be inconsistent. I have another SFD in single side mode that is just as inconsistent.

Is there a software way to make an SFD read a single sided disk?
